Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Roberto De Zerbi in recent weeks, as a possible replacement for Antonio Conte.

Interestingly, Arsenal have also been mentioned as a potential destination for the Brighton manager in recent days.

TuttoSport claim that the Gunners have identified De Zerbi as the man to replace Mikel Arteta if/when he decides to leave the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal have apparently sent ‘signals’ to Edoardo Crnjar, the manager’s agent, about their interest in his client.

Obviously this is more of a long-term contingency plan the Gunners have put together, by the sounds of it.

Tottenham have a more pressing need to bring a new manager in over the coming months.

However, there may be disappointing news for Spurs with regards to De Zerbi.

According to Alasdair Gold, Tottenham have sounded out the reported Arsenal target, and the response hasn’t been great.

“From what I understand,” he said on his YouTube channel.

“The initial contact Spurs have had with De Zerbi’s his camp they are not the most positive indications that he would really be like ‘yeah, alright I’m up for that’. That’s not what I’ve kind of heard.

“I don’t get the impression, from everything I’ve heard, that he’s particularly desperate to leave what is a very stable project at Brighton.

“I guess an exciting one, a very well-structured and planned and thought out project that he has at Brighton for, let’s be honest, the utter chaos that is Tottenham Hotspur right now.”

Our view

Disappointing for Spurs, but really, you can’t blame De Zerbi for not seeming enthusiastic about taking the N17 reins.

Brighton have enjoyed an amazing season that could well end in European qualification.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are in disarray, and Fabio Paratici’s FIFA worldwide ban and leave of absence hasn’t helped.

As for Arsenal, let’s face it, Arteta’s stock is at an all-time high, and we can’t see him leaving any time soon.

The Spaniard has a real chance to go on and do what Arsene Wenger did with the Gunners.

At the very least, he’d want to try and retain the title (if Arsenal win it) and try his luck in the Champions League next term.
