Gary Neville has praised Arsenal midfielder Jorginho after spotting his communication against Newcastle Untied this afternoon.
The Gunners travelled up to St James’ Park in search of a big three points on Sunday afternoon.
Mikel Arteta’s men simply had to win after watching Manchester City beat Leeds United on Sunday.
Arsenal duly obliged, taking an early lead through a superb Martin Odegaard strike as the Norwegian continued his outstanding goalscoring form.
Newcastle did worry Arsenal on occasion but Fabian Schar’s own goal in the second half killed the game off as a contest.
Arsenal continue to fight City for the Premier League title and they came through a huge test with today’s win.
Gary Neville praised Jorginho
Arteta made a couple of big calls with his starting lineup.
Gabriel Magalhaes was risked despite an injury against Chelsea in midweek whilst Jakub Kiwior kept his place.
Leandro Trossard dropped out in favour of Gabriel Martinelli but Arteta chose to stick with Jorginho in midfield.
Thomas Partey hasn’t been at his best in recent games so Jorginho was given a second start in a row.
The Italian international was superb in front of the Arsenal back four once again having impressed against former club Chelsea.
Jorginho notched an assist, two key passes, one tackle won, one interception and three clearances in an all-round display.
It’s hard to see Partey winning his place back from Jorginho right now and Gary Neville spotted a moment of real leadership in the first half.
Speaking to Sky Sports (07/05, 5:10pm), Neville spotted that Jorginho was constantly talking to his teammates and constantly giving advice to younger players.
That’s the kind of experience Arsenal thought they were getting with Jorginho and Neville felt he was a relentless presence with his communication during a fine Arsenal win.
“Just watch Jorginho in midfield, he’s constantly talking to the rest of his teammates, constantly guiding them, showing them what he wants,” said Neville.
