Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy wants to appoint Xabi Alonso as the club’s new manager, not Julian Nagelsmann, according to a report.

The Mirror have reported that Tottenham chairman Levy has identified Alonso “as his No.1 choice to take over the vacant role from Antonio Conte”.
The report has claimed that Levy is ready to pay a compensation fee to Bayer Leverkusen for the former Liverpool and Real Madrid midfielder.
It will be one year’s salary.
Julian Nagelsmann is now reportedly down the pecking order for Tottenham.
The Mirror have claimed that if Spurs want the German manager, then the Premier League club will have to pay a compensation fee to Bayern Munich.
Nagelsmann is on a gardening leave at Bayern, who have replaced him with Thomas Tuchel.
Risky appointment
In our view, appointing Xabi Alonso would be a risky managerial appointment for Tottenham Hotspur.
Okay, the Spaniard is doing well at Bayer Leverkusen at the moment.
And the players at the German club are very happy.
Jeremie Frimpong has been quoted as saying by Football Espana that the 41-year-old Spaniard is a “very understanding” manager who “makes you feel very comfortable”.
However, Alonso has been in charge of a senior team for only a few months.
The 41-year-old is still progressing and developing as a manager and is learning his trade.
If Tottenham want to immediately challenge for the Premier League top four next season, then they need someone who is more experienced than Alonso.
