Ian Wright slammed Raheem Sterling for ’sleeping’ whilst Martin Odegaard was ‘urgent’ during Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Chelsea on Tuesday night at the Emirates.

The Arsenal legend stated that was the ‘difference’ between the two players and the two teams on the night.

Martin Odegaard went on to net a brace, including his quick-thinking run that led to his second after a brilliant first-time finish that kissed the underside of the crossbar for the opener.

But for Raheem Sterling, it was another forgettable performance, as he was hooked off after 70 minutes without really threatening.

It just further indicates that the two London clubs are worlds apart, with the Gunners still pushing for the Premier League title, whilst Chelsea might just finish as low as 15th.

Nonetheless, whilst Wright praised Odegaard for his goals, he was unimpressed by how someone like Sterling was the complete opposite, as he told Premier League Productions (02/05/23 at 8:55 pm).

“In every aspect to that (Arsenal’s first goal) there is no Chelsea player getting tight or looking to be urgent around it,” said Wright.

“It’s a good finish and maybe the power has beaten him (Kepa) to it. You just look at Chelsea and they are offering nothing, so much time on the ball for the Arsenal players.

“You know what’s really good about that with Odegaard (his second goal) and what he has done there? He has put himself in a position where Sterling has just seen the back of him, as soon as Sterling has turned his head, then he has gone.

“Sterling is walking and he has gone. That’s the difference between the two players and the two teams. One is urgent and one is sleeping.”

STRUGGLING STERLING

Back in the summer, the England international secured a £48 million transfer from Manchester City to Stamford Bridge (Sky Sports).

It seems as though the 28-year-old was getting frustrated at the lack of minutes he was getting under Pep Guardiola, hence his decision to leave.

But now it’s proven to be a nightmare of a call because Man City are pushing for a historic treble, whilst Chelsea are facing their worst-ever finish since the turn of the century.
