Janusz Michallik has backed one of Brighton and Hove Albion duo, Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo, to secure a summer transfer to Liverpool.
The ESPN pundit thinks Liverpool will sign one of those players and his hope is that the ‘powerful’ Moises Caicedo is the one who joins.
Brighton have some top talents throughout their ranks, with Alexis Mac Allister described as ‘intelligent’ by Michallik, as he told ESPN.
But Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool aren’t the only ones keen because Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, now that they will return to the Champions League, will also look to dip into that market.
They tried for Caicedo back in January, but a move didn’t materialise as the Seagulls kept firm.
But it’s going to be a different story altogether in the summer, which Michallik touched upon.
“I would take them both,” said Janusz Michallik. “I am not giving anything away here about Liverpool. They aren’t going to get both. I am still wondering, which one would be better.
“Mac Allister is an incredibly intelligent player, and so is Caicedo. I almost think that Caicedo, with his power and his strength, would be better.
“And just the fact that we are seeing him at right-back. If Trent is going to be playing a little bit more central, who knows? Maybe they can rotate somehow. I think one of them will go to Liverpool.
“We are hearing a lot about Alexis Mac Allister that he is the target and it’s close. I don’t know if that’s true, but it would be silly from Liverpool not to have a go at one, if not both. I just don’t think, realistically, you can get both, so one will be at Liverpool.
“The other one can take his pick. We have mentioned Arsenal. Manchester United wouldn’t say ‘no’ to that.
CAICEDO IS NEEDED MORE AT LIVERPOOL THAN MAC ALLISTER
Out of the two, Caicedo is the more defensive-minded and he is starting to play at right-back, which might tip the Liverpool scale towards his favour.
Yes, that all-action and box-to-box number eight is needed. And Mac Allister ticks those boxes.
But with Trent Alexnader-Arnold being used in a hybrid midfield/right-back role by Klopp, then perhaps these latest performances from Caicedo might interest him a little more.
