Gabby Agbonlahor says Manchester United defender and Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Harry Maguire ‘doesn’t start at Chelsea’ and he shouldn’t join Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

With the England international’s future up in the air and yet another crushing ACL injury to Wesley Fofana, it resulted in surprise rumours emerging that Mauricio Pochettino would want to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

Despite those rumours, former Aston Villa striker Agbonlahor made it clear that moving to Chelsea ‘doesn’t suit’ Harry Maguire because, just like at Old Trafford, he will sit on the bench, as he told talkSPORT

The outspoken pundit has previously suggested that Tottenham could be a very good destination for Maguire because ‘he will play’ and start for Ange Postecoglu.

Given that there are many dark clouds around Maguire, then it wouldn’t be a surprise if many would be put off by the £190k-a-week star (Spotrac) joining their club, especially Chelsea who are trying to make a return to the Champions League.

It would cause quite an uproar from Chelsea fans if money is splashed on the 30-year-old, with Agbonlahor sharing his thoughts.

“That doesn’t suit him,” said Agbonlahor. “He isn’t going to start there either.

“He needs to go and play somewhere that he is guaranteed to start, doesn’t he, Maguire?! He doesn’t start at Chelsea. You would say Badiashile and Thiago Silva will start. 100%.”

Ten Hag sends a clear message to Maguire

It isn’t a surprise, but it has been confirmed that Maguire is no longer the captain of Manchester United, after he held discussions with manager Erik ten Hag.

The Dutch coach has made his feelings clear towards the centre-back, it’s just a case of whether he accepts, packs his bags and leaves, or decides that he is happy to warm the bench.

In truth, given that his England place isn’t under threat, then he will probably be happy doing the latter.
