People think The Simpsons predicted the creation of Threads by Instagram, as Homer’s ear in one viral picture going around on the Internet resembles the logo of the new app by Meta.
It’s very unlikely for The Simpsons to not make headlines when anything big or unexpected unfolds. When the vessel carrying Titanic tourists imploded, social media users were convinced the show predicted the submarine’s fate. But, the theories associated with Instagram Threads are not so convincing and we’ll tell you why.
Homer Simpson’s ear resembles Instagram Threads’ logo in a viral picture
By now, you may have chanced upon stories claiming The Simpsons knew about Meta‘s plans for Threads much before it was revealed to the world, thanks to one edited picture of Homer that’s going around.
The picture that’s stirred immense conversations captures Homer’s face from one side, with the focus on his ear, which is edited to look like the logo of Threads.
However, the unedited version of the same picture depicts the character’s ear differently, with not as many twirls as you see in the logo of the new app.
If you notice closely, the strokes on Homer’s earlobes, in fact, resemble the pi symbol as opposed to what many have been claiming on social media.
Maybe The Simpsons didn’t know anything about Threads after all.
‘666’ conspiracy theory surrounding the new app’s symbol
Another conspiracy theory involving Threads claims that hidden within the logo is the numeral 666, which has a negative connotation attached to it.
The series of 6s is used to signify the evil spirit as per popular belief, but whether it’s actually present in the logo of the new app is only people’s perception, just the way some think it resembles an alphabet in the Indian language, Malayalam.
Wild theories kept aside, the logo of Threads is simply made to look like the at-the-rate sign (@), which is found at the start of every handle or username on Instagram.
Even those who didn’t buy the edited picture of Homer theory think the logo does resemble a normal human ear, although each one has interpreted its meaning differently.
App users interpret the meaning of the sign
The ones shown above are only a few of the interpretations of the logo of the app as made by Threads users. Here are a few more.
One user shared: “Trying to decide if the Threads logo looks like an amogus or albedo’s constellation.”
Another tweet that most may not agree with reads: “You see how they made the Threads logo look just like TikTok so open the app more”
A third user shared a side-by-side image of the outline of the cartoon character Popeye’s face and the Threads’ logo with a smoke pipe edited into it. You can’t unsee the resemblance!
