Kevin Hatchard says he finds it ‘really interesting’ that Liverpool have opted against looking to sign Netherlands star, Ryan Gravenberch this summer.

The European football expert and Bundesliga commentator claimed on Twitter that Bayern Munich were previously insistent that ‘they weren’t thinking’ of selling the midfielder, even though, ‘there isn’t an obvious first-team place for him’.

Ryan Gravenberch joined from Ajax last summer with a lot of expectations on his shoulders, but he just couldn’t get going for a Bayern side that got pretty lucky in winning yet another title.

With Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool looking for midfielders this summer, it wasn’t a surprise to see Gravenberch’s name pop up in the transfer rumour mill.

Alexis Mac Allister has already joined from Brighton and Hove Albion, whilst they have already knocked on the German market and signed Hungary captain, Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig.

But it seems as though Gravenberch, who is teammates with Gini Wijnaldum with the Netherlands, might stay put beyond the summer, even though he needs minutes ahead of Euro 2024 next summer.

“This is really interesting, because Bayern maintained for ages they weren’t thinking of selling,” said Hatchard. “But there isn’t an obvious first-team place for him.”

Gravenberch would thrive under Klopp

The last time a Dutch midfielder worked under Klopp at Anfield, he thrived and won it all.

Wijnaldum wrote his name into the history books and it could be argued that he hasn’t been replaced since his exit a number of seasons ago.

Gravenberch does need regular minutes and simplicity to his game because he is capable of being one of the best midfielders in Europe.

A manager like Klopp would take his game to serious heights, but there has to be a reason why the Reds don’t feel the need to push for his signature.
