The LA Galaxy are reportedly interested in 27-year-old Ivory Coast international Jonathan Bamba, who is now a free-agent after his release from Ligue 1 side LOSC Lille.
According to French publication RMC Sport, the left-sided attacker is wanted by the MLS giants after Bamba departed Lille this summer, with some major clubs in OGC Nice, Olympique Marseille and Union Berlin also chasing the winger.
A former teammate for the likes of Rafael Leao and Canadian superstar Jonathan David, Bamba has enjoyed quite the career with Lille and fellow French side Saint-Etienne, with the former Les Bleus youth international playing a massive role in Les Dogues Ligue 1 title win.
With six goals and seven assists last season, Bamba is hitting good numbers in one of Europe’s best leagues, meaning the Ivorian superstar could be quite the signing for the Galaxy as an attacking option for Greg Vanney and his team.
However, based on the other clubs listed as interested in Bamba, it would take quite an effort from the Galaxy to win the forward’s signature, especially with all three Designated Player spots currently filled by Javier Hernandez, Douglas Costa and Riqui Puig.
Bamba to the Galaxy could take some salary gymnastics from the front office
Whilst a case could be made for Chicharito to not be considered as a DP given his injury status, signing Bamba would take quite the accounting from the Galaxy’s front offer, who might be able to work some magic to present a suitable contract to the winger.
As we know, the Ivorian could be sold on a move to MLS with the league now set for a huge bump in prestige due to one Lionel Messi. And for the Galaxy, they might just be about the pull off the signing of Bamba if they can get the finances in order in a legal manner.
