TalkSPORT pundit Jamie O’Hara has said that Tottenham Hotspur should not sign Ivan Toney from Brentford in the summer transfer window.
The former Tottenham Hotspur player has said on talkSPORT (6:29pm, August 19, 2023) that it would be “stupid” of Spurs to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney now since he cannot play until January.

The 27-year-old England international striker is serving a ban at the moment and will not be available to play until January 2024.
O’Hara said about Toney and Tottenham: “I think he is a brilliant player, I think he is fantastic, but I just think it would be a bit stupid to sign someone when you can’t play him until January.”
Football Transfers reported in July 2023 that Tottenham are interested in Toney and are willing to wait until January 2024 to make a move for the striker.
The report added that Spurs could bid for the Englishman this summer.
We do not think that Tottenham will be able to sign Toney now.
First of all, Brentford are not going to sell one of their best players given that Toney will be massive for them once he is back in January.
Of course, every player has their price, but would Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy be willing to spend millions and millions of pounds on a player who would not play until the middle of the season?
And when Toney does come back, it could take the striker a while to get into full-match fitness.
Moreover, the 27-year-old himself may not want to leave Brentford now and could fancy sticking with them for another season before parting ways on a good note.
Toney has made 68 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.
The striker has scored 32 goals and given nine assists in those games.
Meanwhile, journalist Dean Jones has said on the Ranks FC Ultras Podcast that Gent striker Gift Orban is open to a move to Tottenham.
Jones has said that the 21-year-old is convinced about the package that Spurs have offered him.
However, Tottenham are yet to reach an agreement with Gent for the striker.
Jones said, as transcribed by TEAMtalk: “He is convinced of the personal package they have put in front of him, so that is going to be fine, it’s just about agreeing a deal with Gent, so let’s see what happens there.”
