James Benge has suggested that there is still a chance that Cedric Soares gets picked by Mikel Arteta to play for Arsenal this season.
The 32-year-old, who last played for Arsenal in 2022, was loaned-out to Fulham during the second half of the previous campaign.
Upon Cedric Saores returning to the Emirates this summer, he hasn’t even featured in one matchday squad for Arsenal, but CBS journalist Benge shared that the defender is someone who ‘Mikel Arteta likes’, as he told Inside Arsenal.
Given the injury to Jurrien Timber, and there is every chance he doesn’t play again this season, then that does increase Soares’s chances of playing.
Not starting games here and there, but if injuries pile up, games coming thick and fast, then there is every chance he might feature on the bench a lot more than he has done recently.
Even though Cedric wants to leave and Arsenal would be happy for him to go, Benge shared that the player is a ‘good dressing room guy’ and that helps matters.

“There isn’t anyone on that list, other than Pepe and to an extent Cedric, that Arteta wanted gone, that hasn’t gone yet,” said Benge.
“I would (keep Cedric). He isn’t going to kick up a fuss, anyway. I’m not saying that Pepe would. But Cedric is someone who Arteta likes as a player and a person. He is a good dressing-room guy.
“If Cedric can’t find a move he wants, then I wouldn’t be rushing to terminate his contract. I can see a world where Arteta plays Cedric.”
Should Arsenal keep Cedric?
If it so happens to be that the player in question is a healthy person in and around training, the dressing room, then the club doesn’t have much to lose in keeping him.
It’s not like Arsenal are going to get big bucks from his talents, if they sold him to a Saudi club, or given his squad status, then it’s highly unlikely he will be on big wages.
Of course, if Cedric himself feels as though he needs to move on because he is on the last big run of his career, then it would be wise to let him go.
