Manchester City could launch a raid on Chelsea in 2024 with Ian Maatsen believed to be a target for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Chelsea talent Ian Maatsen continues to attract interest with Manchester City now joining the race for his signature.

That is according to 90Min, who claim that Chelsea have been trying to convince Maatsen to sign a new deal.

Maatsen is into the final year of his contract but Chelsea’s wording on his deal states ‘at least 2024’, meaning there could be a one-year option in the contract.

Chelsea want to get Maatsen tied down for the long-term but no agreement means other clubs are sniffing.

Burnley had a loan-to-buy deal worth £31.5million agreed on deadline day but Maatsen rejected the move despite shining on loan with the Clarets last season.

Manchester City now want Ian Maatsen

The latest suitor is Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola’s side taking a close look at Maatsen’s situation with the Blues.

City would love to find a natural left back having used a number of other defenders in that role of late.

Maatsen appeals to City and Guardiola’s men could make a move if there is no progress on a new contract.

Maatsen, 21, is a very attack-minded left back who loves to get forward and support the play.

The Dutchman isn’t getting a game at the moment due to Ben Chilwell’s presence at Chelsea and if City do make a move, it would be difficult for Maatsen to say no.

This would also mean City and Chelsea doing business once again after Mateo Kovacic and Cole Palmer traded places over the summer.

Vincent Kompany could feel very mixed if City make Maatsen move

One man who will be a little conflicted if City do sign Maatsen is Vincent Kompany.

The Belgian brought Maatsen on loan to Burnley last summer and was desperate to re-sign him before last week’s transfer deadline.

Kompany missed out on Maatsen and could now see his former club, the club where he became a legend, swoop in.

On the one hand, Kompany would be gutted to see his former employers sign a player he was so keen to land himself.

On the other, Kompany still has City very close to his heart and if a player he coached can earn a big move to the Etihad Stadium, he may well consider that a great success.
