Glenn Hoddle stated that James Maddison was having a ‘quiet game’ for Tottenham Hotspur against Arsenal, before he transformed with a blink of an eye.
The Tottenham legend stated that, moments after James Maddison nearly gifted Gabriel Jesus a goal, he ‘turned it on’ and outdid his England teammate Bukayo Saka, as he told Premier League Productions (24/09/23 at 3:00 pm).
With both players out on the left flank, Tottenham’s summer signing outfoxed the Arsenal star by pretending to go one direction before going the other way and feeding Son Heung-min for his side’s opening goal.
Glenn Hoddle praised the ‘lovely bit of skill’ from the 26-year-old, as he was at it again in the second when he pounced on a mistake from Jorginho – Jude Bellingham used one word to describe his fellow England international.
After winning August’s Premier League Player of the Month, James Maddison has ensured that his form hasn’t left him because that’s two more assists to his name.
From six Premier League games, he has four assists and two goals to his name, with Hoddle loving what he is seeing from the player.

“Maddison was having a quiet game,” said Hoddle. “But then he turned it on, got himself in the final third, lowly bit of skill on Saka to get to the byline to create.”
James Maddison is already a fan favourite at Tottenham
For years, Spurs were crying out for a player of Maddison’s ilk. Following Leicester City’s relegation, the fans were screaming and shouting for the playmaker to be brought in.
And whilst Daniel Levy has taken a lot of stick from supporters before, the Spurs chairman delivered and brought the player to Hotspur Way.
Understandably so, there was a lot of hype and noise around his signing, and despite that, he is more than living up to expectations.
