Tim Sherwood says Rodrigo Bentancur is ‘one of Tottenham’s best midfield players’.
The 26-year-old suffered an ACL injury back in February and hasn’t kicked a ball since.
In typical Tottenham fashion, a lot has changed at the club during that period, with Harry Kane out of the door and Antonio Conte replaced by Ange Postecoglou.
It’s the crazy world of Spurs sometimes, with Rodrigo Bentancur edging closer to joining the Premier League table toppers on the pitch after his long-term injury.
And when that happens, Sherwood feels he is ‘one of the best’ midfield players Ange Postecoglou has, even though he hasn’t kicked a ball under his new coach yet, as he told Soccer Special on Sky Sports (14/10/23 at 2:30 pm).
Given how well Spurs are playing, then Bentancur can be extra careful as he enters the final stages of donning the club’s colours again.
Rodrigo Bentancur ‘one of Tottennham’s best’
“I think the manager, Postecoglou, has done a magnificent job there,” said Sherwood.
“I think they might struggle with numbers. (But) Bentancur hasn’t kicked a ball yet. He is one of the best midfield players they have got.”
When Bentancur returns from injury
It’s crazy to think, but as of this moment, he doesn’t get into Spurs’ XI given the strong performances in front of him.
On one hand, it proves the depth Spurs have with their £22 million capture from Juventus (Sky Sports).
But you would imagine that the dream midfield three the fans want is James Maddison pushing into the final third working his magic, Bentancur as the number eight roaming up and down, and then the defensive brain of Yves Bissouma behind them.
