How the Gringo Stole Christmas: Release date and plot preview
How the Gringo Stole Christmas is set to arrive on digital VOD stores on Friday, December 1, 2023.
Starring George Lopez, the film tells the story of Bennie, a Mexican-American father who is shocked when his daughter Claudia introduces her new boyfriend to the family and discovers that he is a white American.
Unsurprisingly, Bennie and Leif don’t initially see eye-to-eye and tension rises as the holiday season approaches.
Val Kilmer’s son Jack has a starring role
Taking on the role of Leif, Claudia’s boyfriend, in How the Gringo Stole Christmas is played by Jack Kilmer, the son of Top Gun star Val Kilmer and Joanne Whalley.
Jack has been acting since 2013 when he made his debut in the Gia Coppola film Palo Alto.
Since then, the 28-year-old has appeared in over 30 film and TV productions, most notably alongside Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe in 2016’s The Nice Guys as well as in Summer ’03, The Pretenders, Law & Order: Organized Crime as well as the podcast series The Lesser Dead.
In 2021, Jack served as the narrator on Val, the documentary film about his father while a year later, Jack voiced his father’s character, Madmartigan, in the Willow series on Disney+.
Fans say the new film looks ‘terrible’ but that’s a good thing
The trailer for How the Gringo Stole Christmas has prompted numerous responses from fans on social media, with arguably the majority dubbing the film ‘terrible.’
One fan on YouTube said: “This looks terrible. And we all know what the story is going to be. But it still looks terrible.”
While a second added: “LMFAO! This looks so corny!
And a third commented: “This movie and trash are the same.”
Meanwhile, a pair of commenters noted the similarities between the movie and George Lopez’s new TV series saying, “George just copy-pasted his recent show,” and “Basically it’s Lopez VS Lopez?”
Not everyone was quite so negative, however, as this fan wrote: “Love love love it!!! George Lopez and Emily Tosta combination is pure gold. Can’t wait.”
While the reaction to the movie’s trailer hasn’t been overwhelmingly positive, that could stand How the Gringo Stole Christmas in good stead.
That’s because there is nothing more fun than watching a bad movie with family or friends and tearing it apart as it can arguably be a more enjoyable experience than sitting through any number of well-reviewed movies.
