» » » 'All sorts of problems': Tim Sherwood says Newcastle player couldn't handle £22m Tottenham star

After five Premier League games without a win for Tottenham Hotspur, they found their feet again by demolishing Newcastle United 4-1.

Eddie Howe is probably lucky that it was just four because it should have and could have been a lot more for Ange Postecoglou’s free-flowing Tottenham Hotspur.

Tim Sherwood thinks Son Heung-min, who scored from the penalty spot and supplied two assists, was ‘the Man of the Match’, as he told Premier League Productions (10/12/23 at 6:25 pm).

From the get-go, the Tottenham captain was going at Newcastle’s defence, including getting the better of his former teammate, Kieran Trippier, for the opening goal.

That was highlighted by Tim Sherwood and how the £22 million South Korean star (Guardian) went past the England international ‘like he wasn’t there’.

Whilst Alan Shearer was critical of Newcastle’s defending, it was a masterclass in how to attack from Ange Postecoglou’s team.

Son Heung-min causes Kieran Trippier problems

“It’s not so much formation with Ange, it’s all about principles,” said Sherwood. “When they get the ball. They will flood forward and get the ball into wide areas.

“We try to penetrate down the side and fill up the box. Sonny goes past Kieran like he isn’t there and it’s an easy tap-in. But he has to get into that area. Pedro Porro and him link-up here. They are the two fullbacks.

After FT: “Fantastic result. It keeps Newcastle away from them. Great performances out there from some of the players – Sonny was the Man of the Match. He ran tirelessly. He caused them all sorts of problems and opened up Newcastle’s defence, time and time again.”

Son Heung-min is back to his best for Tottenham

When Harry Kane left, it would and could have been easy for Spurs fans to fear the worst and question who would score the goals for them.

But with Postecoglou’s attacking style, added to the reliability of Son, he is absolutely cooking this season and performing far better than the previous campaign.

That’s ten Premier League goals for the 31-year-old, already matching what he produced last season.

Son has proven before that he can hit 20+ Premier League goals and there is no reason why he can’t hit those numbers again.
