- The first trailer for The Boys season 4 has been released, teasing conflict as Homelander’s influence grows.
- Two new supes feature in the trailer in the form of Sister Sage and Firecracker, both of whom are new creations for the TV series, rather than being adapted from the comics.
- The Walking Dead’s Jeffrey Dean Morgan is set to play an old ally of Billy Butcher, although much about his character remains shrouded in mystery.
It’s a great time to be a fan of The Boys. The rip-roaring spin-off Gen V has just come to a thrilling conclusion, another spin-off has been announced in the form of The Boys: Mexico and now, the main series has just got its first trailer ahead of its return to Prime Video for season 4, introducing fans to several key new character.
Meet Sister Sage in The Boys season 4
The first of three new characters teased in the new season 4 trailer is Sister Sage, who we hear talking with Homelander about his growing political ambitions.
She is played by Susan Heyward who has been acting for almost two decades, with her most notable credits coming in Orange is the New Black, Powers, The Following, Vinyl, OWN’s Delilah, Hello Tomorrow and the Broadway edition of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
Surprisingly, Sister Sage is a brand new character for season 4, and is not based on any of the supes introduced in the original comic book series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson.
According to Variety, Prime Video is keeping a purposefully tight lid on all three of The Boys’ new characters and any further details “will be kept under wraps until the season airs.”

The Boys introduces Firecracker
The second new arrival introduced in the season 4 trailer is Firecracker, a supe who seemingly has her own TV show or podcast dubbed The Truthbomb, as we see her standing on top of its logo during the teaser.
Like Sister Sage, no details have been revealed about Firecracker or her powers as she’s also a brand new character for the Prime Video series.
Something that eagle-eyed fans will be able to spot though, is that she carries a gun – which is curious for a superhero – and her belt buckle features the symbols of a gun and a firecracker.
The character is played by Valorie Curry who fans may recognize from her previous roles in Veronica Mars, The Following, House of Lies, 2016’s Blair Witch movie, The Lost Symbol and The Tick.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s mystery character in The Boys
The casting of Jeffrey Dean Morgan was one of the first announcements made after it was confirmed that The Boys would be returning for season 4.
Much like his fellow new arrivals, Morgan’s character is shrouded in mystery but unlike the two aforementioned supes, who have been named, his character’s identity remains unknown.
However, from the trailer, we can gather that he and Butcher were likely close allies at one stage as we see them warmly greeting each other and sharing a drink.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan is undoubtedly the biggest cast addition for season 4 as his previous credits include playing Negan in The Walking Dead, The Good Wife, Magic City, Grey’s Anatomy, Supernatural, Rampage, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice as an uncredited Thomas Wayne and 2009’s Watchmen.
Season 4 of The Boys will be available to stream on Prime Video in 2024.
