Graeme Souness has weighed in on Eric Dier’s possible exit from Tottenham Hotspur, with Bayern Munich lurking in the corner.

Sources told HITC Football last week that Eric Dier had been in talks with Bayern Munich about a move to the champions of Germany.

Well, after the drama of Radu Dragusin, it probably increases the Englishman’s chances of leaving because, as HITC Football were told, Tottenham have beaten Bayern Munich, of all teams, to the signature of the Genoa star.

With or without Radu Dragusin, minutes under Ange Postecoglou were always going to be tough for Eric Dier because he just simply wasn’t being fancied by his new Spurs manager.

Graeme Souness thinks the 29-year-old is a ‘victim’ of the circumstances because the Treble-winning Celtic boss wants to play a high line and he simply doesn’t suit that, as he told talkSPORT (08/01/24 at 11:45 am).

Even though Tottenham have had injuries to Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, as well as suspensions, the minutes have continued to remain pretty still for Eric Dier.

That’s only 198 minutes for the England international and Graeme Souness feels a move to Munich would be very healthy for him.

Eric Dier at Bayern Munich

On if Dier would be in his team: “Depends what squad you have got,” said Souness. “I understand why (he isn’t playing) because of the way Spurs play, like all top teams play, trying to get up to the halfway line and squeezing the team.

“Dier isn’t the quickest. Him pushing up the halfway line, he would never be comfortable with. He would always be looking to drop off, so I can understand why he isn’t the fit for Spurs.

“I know German football and it’s not as intense as our football. But going to Bayern Munich, one of the great football clubs in the world, living in a fabulous city, great experience for him and they say he’s a really good lad.

“But he is a victim of circumstance. A new manager who wants to play a high line and it doesn’t suit him.”

Harry Kane reunion

The England captain is ripping it up in the colours of Bayern and he might just be reunited with an old friend.

Surely, if the likes of Thomas Tuchel are keen to bring Dier in, then they would have asked Kane about his qualities and what he can bring to the table.

You would assume the £85k-a-week star would play at centre-back and be used in front of the back four because Tuchel has been looking for that defensive-minded midfield brain.

It’s just a case of whether Dier is his answer to take the team over the trophy lines this season, especially in the Champions League.
