Frank Leboeuf thinks Eric Dier’s possible transfer from Tottenham Hotspur to Bayern Munich isn’t a good look for Ange Postecoglou.
HITC Football have been told that Eric Dier is in talks with the German club about a possible January move – his current Spurs contract expires in the summer.
If that deal happens, then Frank Leboeuf has made it clear that he would be ‘very surprised’ because he doesn’t understand why Bayern Munich would want to buy a ‘Tottenham substitute’, as he told ESPN.
But the former World Cup winner also thinks Bayern will be sending a message to Ange Postecoglou that ‘you are not a good coach’ because he doesn’t see Eric Dier’s qualities.
The 29-year-old has only played 198 minutes of Premier League football this term and has even found himself sitting on the bench whilst two fullbacks are starting at centre-back.
If that’s not a loud enough message from the Tottenham boss that Eric Dier isn’t wanted, then nothing ever will be.

“Why would Bayern Munich need a Spurs substitute to get better,” asked Leboeuf. “That’s the reality of the fact.
“When you come to Bayern Munich, it’s because you are a top, top player. Eric Dier is an international player, of course, he is a good player. But he has some issues right now. He has problems he can’t resolve and that’s why he is on the bench.
“Bayern signing him are sending a message to Postecoglou that you’re not a good coach. You didn’t see Dier’s talent.
“I think Postecoglou saw everyone’s talent and weaknesses. He sees that every morning at the training sessions. And I don’t understand that. I am very surprised.”

The fact of the matter is that Spurs are sitting fifth in the Premier League table. It’s a position that is surprising.
When Harry Kane left in the summer, not many would have expected the London club to be playing so well and scoring so many goals.
But it’s Postecoglou’s methods, style of play, decision-making and summer signings that have all helped him start off so well.
And if he feels that Dier isn’t good enough, then he has enough credit in the bank to allow him to leave, even if he is stepping up a level by joining Bayern.
