Tottenham Hotspur are looking to snap up Genoa defender Radu Dragusin but there is some concern about his playing time over in Romania.

We are just seven days into the transfer window but Tottenham appear to be moving forward for two new signings.

HITC Football understands that Tottenham are pressing ahead with a deal to take RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner on loan.

There is also a permanent signing in the offing as sources indicate that Tottenham are optimistic of finding an agreement for Genoa defender Radu Dragusin this weekend.

Genoa are seeking a fee of around £30million, a price Tottenham have so far been unwilling to pay.

Spurs are still favourites to sign Dragusin despite interest from Napoli and the defender’s agent is pushing for a move to North London.

Fears over Radu Dragusin to Tottenham in Romania

Dragusin has clearly become Tottenham’s top target as they seek to add another centre back during the January transfer window.

Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven formed a superb partnership earlier in the season but their current injuries have exposed Tottenham’s lack of depth at the back.

Tottenham are now looking for Dragusin to come in as competition for Romero and Van de Ven, which more than likely means him being third choice.

That situation is causing some concern over in Romania ahead of Euro 2024.

Dragusin is a star man at Genoa and should be a vital part of Romania’s back line this summer.

A move to Tottenham may mean that Dragusin becomes a little rusty ahead of Euro 2024 though and pundit Helmuth Duckadam has shared his verdict.

Former Romania goalkeeper Duckadam has told Digisport that he thinks Dragusin to Tottenham would be a ‘great achievement’ for the defender but not for the national team.

Duckadam noted that the competition at Tottenham will push Dragusin to improve but fears a lack of playing time ‘will be a problem’ ahead of the European Championships.

“It would be a great achievement for him, I don’t know if it would be a great achievement for the national team. Here, the starting position was guaranteed,” said Duckadam. “Of course they will push him, but later, if he doesn’t play, it will be a problem, especially before the European Championship,” he added.

Van de Ven is on his way back and Romero shouldn’t be too far away either, so we can understand Duckadam’s concerns.

Dragusin should receive plenty of chances to play though with both centre backs needing to be managed carefully after their injuries.

Add in that Romero is prone to a suspension and we can see Dragusin receiving opportunities going forward at Tottenham – even if his role is likely to be reduced from his position at Genoa.
