Bayern Munich could be about to land another Tottenham Hotspur player – Eric Dier.
After securing the goalscoring prowess of Harry Kane in the summer, Thomas Tuchel is now seemingly in need of defensive cover, with HITC sources telling us that the England captain has provided a ‘glowing reference’ of the versatile Spurs player.
Eric Dier is out of favour at Tottenham Hotspur under Ange Postecoglou and he needs a fresh start in his career.
Paul Merson thinks it’s ‘unbelievable’ for the 29-year-old that a possible move to the champions of Germany is on the cards, as he told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (06/01/24 at 2:25 pm).
After playing only 198 minutes of Premier League football this term, you would automatically assume that the options in the transfer market would be limited to Eric Dier.
But his past work, mainly under Mauricio Pochettino and some under Antonio Conte, is working in good stead here.
There is a serious chance that, not only could he move to Bayern Munich, but he is lifting silverware at the end of the season, including the European Cup.
All in all, Paul Merson thinks this is a result and a half for the player.

“Oh, it’s unbelievable,” said Merson. “He must be sitting there now thinking ‘I didn’t think that wishing well worked when he threw that 50p’. Seriously!?
On being a great servant to Spurs: “Well, that doesn’t get you a move to Bayern Munich, does it?! I like Dier. I think he is a holding midfield player. I don’t think he is a centre-half.
“If he plays there (in midfield), and they are talking about Kimmich might be going somewhere. Fair play to him. At holding midfield, I think he could do a very good job.”

Thomas Tuchel will be well-versed in how a player like Dier operates after his successful spell as Chelsea’s manager because he would have watched him from afar.
Throughout his career, Dier has been moved about. Playing as a right-back, centre-back and in the middle of the park.
With Bayern’s need to have a bonafide number six in the team, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the £85k-a-week star operates that role for the German giants.
Either way, this is a great chance for the player to pick up his career, start performing again and make a late surge into Gareth Southgate’s thinking ahead of Euro 2024.
