Tottenham Hotspur fought off competition from Napoli and AC Milan as well as Bayern Munich while agreeing a £26 million deal to bring Radu Dragusin to the Premier League.
Ok, Spurs might not be the first Premier League club which comes to mind when you mention ‘pulling power’ – they have neither the financial might of Manchester United or the guarantee of silverware like Man City – but clearly there is something the London giants are doing right.
Timo Werner, according to Sky Sports, jumped at the chance to join on loan after talking to Ange Postecoglou, seemingly as captivated as the rest of us by the frank-talking Aussie.
Radu Dragusin, meanwhile, did like Destiny Udogie and rebuffed some of Italy’s biggest clubs in favour of putting pen to paper at Tottenham.
Tottenham Hotspur win Radu Dragusin race
“Napoli were there from the beginning in a very concrete way. I spoke many times with (president Aurelio) De Laurentiis. Milan also wanted him,” Florin Manea, Dragusin’s media-friendly agent, tells Tuttomercatoweb, confirming what HITC reported a few days ago.
Tottenham finally agreed a deal worth around £26 million this week.
Manea admits that the Romania international chose Spurs not just because of his reluctance to join one of Genoa’s Serie A rivals, but because such an opportunity allows him to fulfil a boyhood ‘dream’.
“Napoli was the most concrete club. But Radu didn’t want to go to another Italian team,” Manea explains. “While Milan did a survey, I spoke to (technical director Geoffrey) Moncada but told him that we had already chosen Tottenham.
“We are happy with the choice.
“He wants to play every game. He dreamed of the Premier League as a child. When he was 16, I predicted that he would go to England. They call me Nostradamus of Romania!”
Potential debut this weekend
Dragusin also resisted an eleventh hour hi-jack attempt from Bayern Munich. Ironically enough, the Bundesliga champions are now set to reunite Harry Kane with one Eric Dier instead.
It remains to be seen, however, if Dragusin is registered in time to make his Tottenham debut away to Manchester United this weekend.
