'What he has against us’: Chelsea star sick of the sight of international teammate who has performed superbly this season

Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has praised one Premier League star for always turning up against the Blues.

It’s fair to say it’s been a tough season for Enzo Fernandez and Chelsea as the West London club are nowhere near where they would like to be this campaign under Mauricio Pochettino’s tutelage.

Fernandez joined Chelsea from SL Benfica in the previous January transfer window and is already on his third manager since he arrived at Stamford Bridge.

The midfielder was arguably the golden boy of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with Argentina coming out victorious in an unbelievable final against France before Fernandez moved to London.

Fernandez praises international teammate

Well, one player who was crucial to Argentina’s extraordinary run to the final and eventually winning the World Cup was Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

During the winter tournament. Martinez was vital for Argentina as the South American siwon two penalty shootouts against Netherlands and France in the final.

The two sides will meet in the FA Cup and the Argentinian midfielder is excited about this prospect.

“It’s a big deal,” he told ESPN Argentina. “With Chelsea he always gets bigger, I don’t know what he has against us. It’s going to be special to play against Dibu [Martinez].”

Martinez and his Villa teammates have had an outstanding season under Unai Emery with the Midlands club certainly in the fight for a top four spot and qualification to the Champions League.

The Argentine goalkeeper, who used to play for Arsenal, has certainly had his suitors during his spell at Villa Park and the London club have previously certainly been one of them.

With doubts over whether Robert Sanchez, who was brought into the club during the summer from Brighton & Hove Albion, is good enough, the links to Martinez may well persist.

Martinez certainly has the personality to succeed at a big club like Chelsea but if Villa were to qualify for Europe’s top club competition, then the Argentine would surely decide to stay at the club.

Considering the stability that Villa are currently going through at the moment, staying in Birmingham may well be the wise decision for Martinez.
