» » » 'People poked fun': Michael Owen says £113k-a-week man has had 'very good career' after leaving Arsenal

Aston Villa will have a big say on whether Arsenal win the Premier League title this season.

Unai Emery’s side are yet to play the Premier League’s top three in their reverse fixtures, including a trip to the Emirates on 14 April.

Wouldn’t it be something if Unai Emery helped his former side out here? Or on the other hand, actually stops them from winning their first Premier League title in two decades?!

Michael Owen has stated that when the thriving Aston Villa boss was at Arsenal ‘they probably poked a little fun at him’, but he has since gone on to have a ‘very good carer’, as he told Premier League Productions (17/03/24 at 1:35 pm).

The manner in which Mikel Arteta has lifted Arsenal to their current status has been pretty impressive, but it came with its struggles.

When Unai Emery was sacked by Arsenal in 2019, the team proceeded to win the FA Cup, but also finished 8th in back-to-back campaigns.

It wasn’t after heavy spending and nearly five years of work has Mikel Arteta managed to get the team to a position where they are now challenging, but they haven’t won the big one yet!

All in all, Unai Emery is very comfortable in his current job and is getting high praise for his work at Aston Villa.

“He’s had a very good career,” said Owen. “A lot of people looked at him at Arsenal and thought ‘Is he as good as everybody thought?’

“They probably poked a little bit of fun at him as well, but apart from that, he has had a wonderful career.

“He has really created something at Aston Villa. There is a definite way of playing. We have all seen it before, the high line, the high press and the attacking eventful games they are involved in.

“They have been brilliant this season. He has bought well and improved players that are already there, so I think he has done an incredible job.”

The Spanish coach, who has won numerous European titles and the Ligue title at PSG, is being lauded and applauded at Villa.

There is every chance Villa finish fourth this season and secure Champions League football for the first time in over three decades.

That would be an incredible achievement from the £5.9 million-a-year man (£113k-a-week), as well as his chance to win the Europa Conference League.

All in all, that upcoming meeting with Arsenal is going to be very interesting because it will have a big say on the title race and the top four race.
