Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has hailed Wataru Endo after his performance in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City.

Liverpool may be a little disappointed not to have claimed all three points against City on Sunday afternoon.

Yes, the Reds did have to come from a goal down as John Stones opened the scoring from a Kevin De Bruyne corner.

Liverpool were superb after the break though and found a leveller with Alexis Mac Allister scoring from the penalty spot.

Jurgen Klopp’s side had the better of the second half but just couldn’t find a winner and had to settle for a point.

This was a Liverpool display full of endeavour and determination.

Nobody sums up those qualities better than midfielder Wataru Endo.

Many were scratching their heads when Liverpool signed Endo from Stuttgart for £16million last summer.

The Japan international had been a solid performer for Stuttgart but few really expected him to join one of Europe’s top clubs.

Liverpool saw something that others didn’t and Endo has become something of a fan favourite this season.

Klopp has now moved to praise Endo, telling BBC Sport that he thinks Endo has simply become ‘world class’ despite many doubting him.

“What can you expect when you sign 31-year-old captain of Japan and he will be a standout player in the Premier League. You never know that people can develop to world class but that’s what happened,” said Klopp.

That is huge praise for Endo but that £16million deal is starting to look like an incredible bargain.

Endo recorded two interceptions, two clearances, two successful aerial duels and one key pass in a fine display against City.

Liverpool wanted a new anchor man last summer and whilst Moises Caicedo may have been the top target, Endo is proving to be a quality midfielder for a fraction of the cost.
