Tottenham Hotspur will be playing Europa League football next season after progressing under their new manager.
Ange Postecoglou has been a breath of fresh air to the club and a manager much-craved by the fans because of his all-action style of play.
Overall, many will agree that Tottenham had a brilliant campaign and the signs are positive going forward.
Not only did the current players at Spurs improve, but Postecoglou’s new signings also shone, including the likes of Micky van de Ven, James Maddison and Guglielmo Vicario.
Yet, when you look at the list of Spurs players going to Euro 2024, only four will be heading out to Germany when it could and probably should have been more.
The name or exclusion that shocked everyone the most was Gareth Southgate snubbing Maddison and axing him from the England squad.
As you can imagine, it would have been hard to take for the 27-year-old, but a certain Neal Maupay saw it differently.
As many know, Maddison is a huge darts fan and Maupay posted an image of him holding darts, with a big smile on his face, when that news broke.
The Everton striker, who was on loan at Brentford during the recently concluded season, defended his action and called it ‘banter’.
But Darren Bent and Andy Goldstein were having none of it and agreed that it was ‘personal’ from the Frenchman, as they told talkSPORT (10/06/24 at 4:55 pm).
Of course, there is history here because Maddison and Maupay clashed in January during Tottenham’s win over Brentford.
And his latest actions haven’t sat down well.
Neal Maupay mocks Tottenham star James Maddison
“Listen, Maddison not making a major tournament and him laughing about it, that’s personal that,” said Bent.
Andy Goldstein added: “Also, picking on someone, right? Going after James Maddison or anyone. That is personal. That’s exactly what it is. That’s terrible.”
Bent then stated: “For him not making a major tournament? And knowing how devastated he would be. I don’t see the funny side to that.”
James Maddison next season
The £40 million signing started like a house on fire when he first joined Spurs, then got injured, returned months later and his form dipped off.
Added in the England snub to it and you feel, next season, he is going to have the bit between his teeth and be ready to prove many people wrong.

All of this benefits Tottenham because Maddison, at his very best, equals Postecoglou being able to deliver what he wants.
There will be a lot more pressure on the London club next season because Postecoglou would have settled down and the Harry Kane cloud would have well and truly gone.
