» » » 'Average': Simon Jordan says winger Liverpool wanted hasn't made much of a step up after Bayern transfer

Liverpool will be returning to Europe’s elite competition next season after a one-year absence from the Champions League.

Jurgen Klopp is no longer at the door and that’s something fans will have to get used to pretty quickly because he was immense during his near-decade stay.

Arne Slot is the new Liverpool manager and he will be ready to come up against some of the big boys of the Champions League.

Real Madrid’s Champions League-winning manager Carlo Ancelotti speaks for himself, but not every team has that elite name at the top of their house.

Bayern Munich are a prime example of that after they replaced Thomas Tuchel with Vincent Kompany, even though he was relegated with Burnley.

Despite that, the German giants, who went trophyless for the first time since 2012 last season, are bringing in the big names and transforming their squad.

Last summer, Bayern Munich signed Harry Kane from Tottenham, but even his goals couldn’t stop their capitulation and decline.

But that hasn’t stopped them from looking towards the Premier League for more talent, as they have signed Michael Olise from Crystal Palace.

Simon Jordan was pretty critical of Olise moving to Munich by claiming ‘I don’t think it’s as big of a step up as people make out’, as he told talkSPORT.

The France U21 international was wanted by several Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, as sources told HITC.

But former Palace owner Jordan explained why he feels a move to another Premier League side never happened.

Michael Olise joins Bayern Munich

“Olise going to Bayern Munich,” said Jordan. “Bayern are in re-build. I don’t think it’s as big of a step up as people make out, because Bayern are a ‘legacy club’ in an average league. He has played against better opposition for Palace. I think he will make the step quite easily, if he doesn’t feel the shirt is too heavy for him.

“There are two reasons why he has gone to Bayern Munich. It’s because Vincent Kompany has managed in England and Bayern Munich will pay more money than anyone else. If other teams in the Premier League were prepared to pay the 60 million Euros that has taken to get him out of Palace, then he wouldn’t have gone to Bayern Munich, I suspect. He might have stayed in the Premier League.”

Will Liverpool boost their attack?

The big positive for the Reds is that their star man Mohamed Salah is still on board and he is crucial to Slot settling in.

There has been transfer noise around the future of Luis Diaz, but as of this moment, he is staying put.

But you just wonder if Klopp needs to add to his forward line because how they ended the season was pretty troubling.

A player like Olise would have been fantastic for the team, but fishing in that sort of pond would work well for Liverpool, who are now entering a new era.
