Newcastle United had to annoyingly deal with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) in June to comply with the Premier League’s financial measures.
Rather than get excited about who could join the club this summer, the fans had to watch academy star Elliot Anderson make a big-money switch to Nottingham Forest.
Teenager Yankuba Minteh also departed for Brighton & Hove Albion and now many inside Newcastle are hoping they can move on and look to bolster their squad.
12 months ago, the team was preparing for Champions League football and now they won’t be playing Europe at all ahead of the new Premier League season.
That is a big body blow to Eddie Howe and it might just affect the club when they try to bring players in via the transfer market.
This was proven when Newcastle were interested in centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo, but he decided to join Chelsea on a free transfer.
But the Toon Army faithful shouldn’t fret too much because there are plenty more fish in the sea and a possible midfield partner who the ever-popular fan favourite Bruno Guimarães can dance alongside.
Morgan Gibbs-White at Newcastle United
Sources have told HITC that the Magpies have asked about Morgan Gibbs-White services, after Newcastle agreed to the departure of Anderson.
A player like Gibbs-White is of a similar frame to Guimarães, but he doesn’t have the defensive brain of the Brazil star.
But that doesn’t matter too much because he can become a top-quality player under Howe and form a formidable attacking partnership alongside Guimarães.
Both are powerful players, they love driving from deep, they can carry the ball for fun and love the physical battle.
Put both of them together in the same team, with defensive cover behind them, and watch them rip teams open for fun.
Morgan Gibbs-White under Eddie Howe
Yes, the last campaign was one to forget, but it was riddled with injuries and that just kept on stagnating the team’s season.
But one thing you can’t argue is that Howe knows how to get the best out of players and take them to the next level.

The likes of Joelinton, Miguel Almiron, Liverpool transfer target Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak, to name a few, are prime examples.
There is no reason why Gibbs-White can’t do the same if he decided to switch Nottingham Forest colours for Newcastle’s this summer.
