» » » 'Interesting': Stuart Pearce expecting West Ham United star to leave after Max Kilman signing

West Ham United have made their first major move of the 2024 summer transfer window.

It’s time to write a new chapter in the club’s history following the departure of David Moyes after he won the Europa Conference League.

Now it’s Julen Lopetegui’s time to showcase what he is all about at West Ham and he has knocked on the door of a former club already.

West Ham recently completed the transfer of Max Kilman from Wolves and you sense that he is going to go straight into the XI.

Even though the Hammers had a defensive-minded coach last term, only the Premier League’s relegated trio were worse than them defensively, as they shipped 74 goals and finished outside of Europe.

Stuart Pearce, who worked on the coaching staff at West Ham for a period of time, gave his approval to the Kilman transfer.

The former left-back highlighted the 27-year-old’s ability to play the ball out from the back and how the £40 million fee for his signature is ‘fair’, as he told talkSPORT.

But with Kilman coming in, the question has to be asked as to who will leave the London Stadium this summer.

Pearce touched upon Kurt Zouma and how he could be the one in the firing line after a difficult season for the club.

Sources have told HITC that the West London outfit are open to Zouma leaving, as West Ham are also in talks with Nice’s Jean Clair-Todibo.

Kurt Zouma to leave West Ham United?

“In this day and age, I am not sure what players are worth,” responded Pearce to Kilman’s £40 million price tag. “I would have said it’s a fair fee. I like him when I have watched him. He is decent. Comfortable on the ball. Taking the ball.

“It will be interesting to see. I don’t know what the future of Kurt Zouma will be. Whether him arriving would signal players out.”

Big pressure on Max Kilman

This is a step up for Kilman and the pressure is going to be on him pretty much straight away.

Not only are fans expecting results to improve, but the style of play also because that was a major talking point under the previous manager.

This is where Kilman comes into it. He is very comfortable on the ball, he understands and already knows Lopetegui’s tactics, so his settling-in period shouldn’t be a problem.

It’s just a case of who will be his partner in crime? Angelo Ogbonna has left, whilst Zouma’s future is in doubt, alongside Nayef Aguerd’s, so expect big changes to West Ham’s backline.
