Manchester United are making in-roads with their summer recruitment plans and their most audacious bid of the new Ineos era is progressing.
United completed their first signing of the summer in the shape of Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee at the weekend but the club’s new footballing department is already working hard on a number of other deals and central defence is an area they are paying particular attention to.
HITC understands that United’s plans include them bringing in two centre-halves. They are in talks with Bayern Munich over a deal for Dutch star Matthijs de Ligt whilst they have also had two bids rejected by Everton for Jarrad Branthwaite.

Manchester United and Ineos making Leny Yoro progress
Whilst pursuing De Ligt and Branthwaite, United also made a bid for Lille’s outstanding young defender Leny Yoro – despite the fact he had made it clear he only wanted to join Real Madrid this summer.
However, HITC can reveal that United’s minority owners Ineos – who have years of experience and contacts in French football through their ownership of Nice – made it known to the football department that they had been briefed on Yoro’s situation and they felt there was a possibility of persuading him to join them.
As such United pushed ahead and agreed terms with Lille last week in a deal worth £42million, but from the outset Yoro stood firm but talks have been ongoing with the player’s representatives and they have progressed to the point where he is now understood to be considering the option of moving to Old Trafford.
Real Madrid in talks with Lille and Yoro
Real Madrid have held talks with Lille and Yoro, and put forward their case to both but talks between the clubs have not gone too well with the European champions only willing to offer around half the amount on the table from United.
With Yoro they have put a deal to him, and insist that if a terms with the club are not agreed this summer, the plan is for him to move to the Spanish capital when his deal in France expires – something Yoro is considering.
United, though, are putting to him the case that he should join them this summer, and they feel he is softening to the idea of moving across The Channel rather than wait for Madrid.
Both Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain were also on the trail of Yoro, but they backed off when the player made clear his stance on wanting to join Madrid, but with United making their breakthrough sources believe that they could yet rekindle their interest in a player many view as a ‘generational talent’.
