Tottenham are continuing to make noises in the summer transfer market.
For the second summer transfer window running under Ange Postecoglou, Spurs have been busy in both outgoings and incomings.
It’s fair to say that those who have joined the club have taken most of the spotlight, including Tottenham securing a club-record transfer deal for Dominic Solanke.
But for Michael Owen, it’s who has headed for the exit door that has surprised him the most and he explains why.
Tottenham narrowly missed out on Champions League football last season and Postecoglou was clear he was going to make changes.
It was obvious to the supporters who was going to leave, it was just a case of bringing in a willing buyer and then parting ways.
Pierre-Emile Højbjerg joined Roberto De Zerbi’s Marseille after falling out of favour under Postecoglou, but it wasn’t his transfer that was surprising.
Michael Owen highlighted Emerson Royal joining AC Milan and Oliver Skipp leaving his boyhood club to secure a transfer to Leicester City.
The former England striker couldn’t believe the transfer fees Spurs were able to bring in for those players, especially Skipp.
The Foxes paid £20 million for the hard-hitting midfielder, but Owen thinks he was half that and that’s why he was left shocked, as he told Premier League Productions (20/08/24 at 7:15 pm).

“That’s good business, I feel,” said Owen about Tottenham’s incomings.
“I think they have done quite well to get the money they have got as well for some of the players who have gone.
“Emerson Royal, nearing £30 million for him. Skipp, to get £20 million for him. Again, another one, I thought ‘wow, maybe selling him for £10 million’, but to get £20 million, so I think they have done a quite decent bit of business there as well.”

It’s interesting the road Spurs have gone down and who they have brought in to effectively replace those players.
Tottenham secured the transfer of Archie Gray from Leeds. That’s two birds with one stone because he can play right-back and in the middle of the park.

Lucas Bergvall was a standout performer in pre-season and he first met up with his new teammates this summer.
That’s another pair of fresh legs to the midfield and it’s going to be needed with the club in the Europa League.
