Cameron Young bogeyed his final hole at the Canadian Open on Sunday when a birdie would have been enough to force a play-off with eventual winner Ryan Fox and Sam Burns.

Young has been in really poor form over the past year or so, and he has only four top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour to his name since June 2024.

In the past, Young’s mental strength has been questioned, but in fairness to him on Sunday, he didn’t really do anything wrong.

The 28-year-old from New York finished the Canadian Open in a tie for fourth, after an almost flawless final round of 65.

He was actually extremely unlucky on the 18th hole on Sunday, where he hit two wonderful shots, but ended up with a bogey six.

Cameron Young shares his anger after what happened at the Canadian Open

And the world number 66 admitted after his round that he was incredibly angry following what he felt was a really bad break.

“This very moment, a lot of anger, a bit of frustration. I couldn’t have hit two better shots on the last hole. I don’t hit 3-wood that far, and it’s blowing straight into the wind, and it decided to bounce all the way to the back woods.

“I thought in the air I was going to have about a 12-footer to win the tournament, and it ended up somewhere I was going to struggle to make par, let alone make a 4. Pretty upset. Played pretty well. Kind of just want to go home right now.“

Young is still waiting for his first win on the PGA Tour, after 89 attempts and counting.

He certainly has the game needed to win one of the big events, but something seemingly holds him back every single time.

On Sunday at Osprey Ridge, Young mounted a charge up the leaderboard, and it looked like he had a real chance to win when he stood in the middle of the 18th fairway, with just 260 yards remaining to the hole on the par five.

The American had just made an unbelievable par save on the previous hole, and he was clearly pumped.

However, the adrenaline coursing through Young’s veins obviously added more distance to his ripped three-wood second shot on 18.

His ball sailed over the green and on into the trees beyond the back of the 18th green, from where he went on to make a six.

Cameron Young so hard done by on 18 at the Canadian Open

Sometimes you’ve just got to hold your hands up and say, ‘there was nothing more I could have done’.

Young hit two fantastic shots on the 18th hole at the Canadian Open, and as he said, he more than deserved a chance for an eagle.

The man from New York has all of the tools needed to win on the PGA Tour.

He just has to make some marginal gains with his putter and be more accepting of bad breaks out on the course.

Young will undoubtedly win a big tournament one day, and he was very unlucky that he didn’t break his duck at the Canadian Open.
