Manchester United players can only change their squad numbers before the new season gets underway.
The club unveiled their home kit for the 2025/26 campaign on Thursday morning.
Fans can now purchase the shirt, with Ruben Amorim’s side set to head to the U.S. for their pre-season tour.
Supporters noticed that Marcus Rashford’s No.10 is still vacant, even though Matheus Cunha had been tipped to take it.
Changes can still happen though, and one player is in line to finally get his preferred number.
Diogo Dalot likely to switch shirt number at United
Signed for £19m back in 2018, Dalot chose the No.20 shirt – aligning it with his age and the legacy of players like Robin van Persie and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
But during a fan Q&A in 2022, Dalot made it clear that he always had his eye on the No.2 shirt, the traditional number for a right-back.
“My favourite is always the No. 2 which, at the time and now, it’s being worn by Victor. So it was not available at the time and it’s still not,” he explained then.

But with Victor Lindelof now gone, the number is back in circulation – and Dalot is expected to make the switch.
That follows a trend from the previous summer when Rasmus Hojlund took over the No.9 shirt – and Dalot will want to follow suit by securing a first-choice number.
While fans can still buy Dalot’s current No.20 shirt, an official change could be confirmed soon.
Two more United players could change squad numbers this summer
The expected overhaul of United’s squad this summer should create openings for new shirt numbers.
Dalot may not be the only player making a switch. Amad Diallo and Kobbie Mainoo could also update their squad numbers ahead of 2025/26.

Mainoo already stirred speculation last summer when he was seen training without his usual No.37.
If Mainoo is handed a larger role this season, he may want to trade up for a stronger squad number. With Christian Eriksen leaving, the No.14 is empty, and Michael Carrick’s former No.16 could be an option if Diallo moves numbers again.
Amad was a key player for Ruben Amorim last season and should feature regularly in 2025/26.
Even though he already shifted from No.19 to No.16, Amad might still seek a number change – although it looks tough unless further departures happen first.
Meanwhile, if United complete a deal with Brentford for forward Bryan Mbeumo, he’s expected to take over Amad’s old No.19 shirt.
