Mason Greenwood and Manchester United both decided that following talks at the club’s training ground this week that his time at the club was over and now a transfer has been agreed.
The England international, who came through the youth ranks at Old Trafford, has not played for United since he was arrested in January 2022 but the case against him was dropped in 2023.
However, United concluded after their own investigation that they would not reintegrate him into the first-team picture and made him available for transfer.
Greenwood spent last season on-loan at Spanish side Getafe and the 22-year-old showed a tremendous return to form with eight goals and six assists. He was also named the club’s Player of the Year.
Getafe wanted to bring him back, but they were soon priced out of a move as United were pushing to sell Greenwood and they have now got their wish.

Marseille agree terms with Man United for Mason Greenwood
HITC sources have confirmed that a deal is now in place between United and French giants Marseille – who have agreed terms on a deal worth €30million (£25million).
The deal is someway short of what United had previously demanded as they valued Greenwood at around £40million but they soon realised they would not be getting that price so they accepted a lesser deal that also included a substantial sell-on clause. Sources have confirmed to HITC that the deal does indeed include such a clause and it is worth 50% of any future sale to United.
Greenwood had interest from the likes of Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, Borussia Dortmund, Lazio and Napoli but they were all keen on pursuing loan moves, but United were adamant they wanted a permanent sale.
HITC can confirm that following meeting at United’s training ground on Monday, the club’s new footballing hierarchy made it clear they wanted to sever all ties with Greenwood and the feeling was mutual, which has now led to the deal being agreed with Marseille.
Greenwood for his part is set to be handed a five-year deal in the south of France where he will link up with former Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi – who was appointed as the club’s new head coach last month.

And in a press conference at his unveiling on Tuesday, De Zerbi admitted he was ready to take on Greenwood and everything that surrounds him, despite some Marseille fans, including the local mayor, making it known they do not want to see him at the Stade Velodrome.
But De Zerbi stated: “He hasn’t signed, there’s not much to say. He’s a world-class player.
“I don’t know his background. No matter the player, once they sign here, they become like my children. I protect them through thick and thin. Maybe, in private I’ll pull their ears, but in public, I’ll defend them like my sons.”
