Perry Groves says Kylian Mbappe doesn’t suit Jurgen Klopp’s style at Liverpool amid rumours that he will leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
The former Arsenal player stated that, at Paris Saint-Germain, the 2018 World Cup winner plays at ’80-85%’, but he can’t do that in the Premier League or for a team like Liverpool, as he used Erling Haaland as an example as someone that does do it for Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
Added to that, he feels that you would have to ‘build your team around’ Kylian Mbappe, and once again, that’s something Jurgen Klopp simply wouldn’t do, as he told talkSPORT.
Even though Mbappe is one of the world’s best, if not the best right now, surely, every club in the land, if it was financially feasible, would take him on board – and that’s what Liverpool are trying to do.
You would imagine that the Reds are no different, especially given that they are looking for that big-name signing after losing out on Jude Bellingham to Real Madrid.
But not for Groves, who explained why Mbappe, who was dubbed ‘arrogant’ (The Athletic), in the right way, by his former manager, Mauricio Pochettino, wouldn’t work at Anfield.
“You can’t play 80-85%, which he can for PSG,” said Groves. “You see how poor they are in the Champions League. Can’t get past the quarter-finals because they come up against teams that have the same stature as they have.
“You have to build the team around Mbappe. Liverpool aren’t going to do that because they play high press and everybody has to be working off the ball. As brilliant as Mbappe is, will he do that?
“When you play the other top teams, you can’t have players that don’t contribute when you aren’t in possession. It doesn’t work that way. If you look at Man City, even Haaland, as brilliant as he is, he presses and he does his job off the ball. I am not sure Mbappe does that.”

Liverpool couldn’t even get a deal done for Bellingham this summser, so there is no chance of them getting Mbappe unless it’s on a free.
And if that scenario comes about, and there is still a chance despite the chaos in Paris, then it’s Real Madrid who will be the front-runners for his signature.
