Tony Cascarino says former Arsenal player Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has made a ‘strange’ transfer move to Marseille following his Chelsea exit.

The former Chelsea and Marseille striker says the 34-year-old no longer has the ‘hunger’ and ‘desire’ to perform, as he told talkSPORT.

That was highlighted during the last 12 months of his reign at Arsenal, which in the end, resulted in Mikel Arteta stripping him of the captain’s armband, and then booting him out.

That saw the FA Cup winner join Barcelona, before that Catalonia road led him back to England and to Chelsea.

But, as many expected, it wasn’t going to work out and it didn’t work out – and now he is a Marseille player, with neither club sharing whether a fee has been paid for his signature, as reported by BBC Sport

Cascarino spoke about Aubameyang’s demise and how he was a ‘fabulous talent’ when in the colours of Arsenal.

“Strange one,” said Cascarino. “Three-year deal. 34 takes him to 37.

“Honestly, I haven’t seen the player that shone for Arsenal, just before he got his massive contract. He was a fabulous talent.

“I think Marseille have got caught up in the memories of a player that was once brilliant. He has never felt to me, especially in the last 18 months and two years, that he has got the hunger and desire in his belly.

“Watching him for Chelsea, he has been anonymous in games – I just can’t see it (Aubameyang re-igniting his career).”

Aubameyang shouldn’t have returned to Premier League

It was understandable why Chelsea went for him in the first place. They were looking for goals and Thomas Tuchel decided to reunite with the Dortmund star.

But when he was sacked soon after, you just knew that the end was already near for the Gabon star, who couldn’t get going under Graham Potter or the returning Frank Lampard, in truth, no one could.

But from the player’s perspective, that spark, fire and threat to his game had gone long ago, so he shouldn’t have returned to the Premier League, even if his former manager was knocking.
