Darren Bent says if Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United secured Declan Rice’s transfer from West Ham United, then it would send out a ‘statement’.
Ahead of next week’s Europa Conference League final, Declan Rice is set to play his final game for West Ham United and it might just end in the most perfect of fashions and that’s helping the Hammers win a major trophy for the first time since 1980.
Many are expecting his exit when the summer transfer window re-opens, with Bent thinking the ’top-class’ midfielder would fit right in with Newcastle United and Eddie Howe, as he told talkSPORT Drive (30/05/23 at 4:25 pm).

Given that the Magpies will be playing Champions League football next season, then such a transfer shouldn’t be ruled out.
It also needs to be noted that, other than Manchester City, not many teams can financially compete with the Saudi-owned club.
But it also comes down to what the player wants and he seems as though he could be heading to Arsenal, with Bent talking about a possible move to St James’ Park instead.
“If he (Rice) goes to Newcastle, then what happens with Bruno Guimaraes,” asked Bent. “Or will they play together?
“When you think about Newcastle and the re-build. You want a statement signing at Newcastle and someone that’s going to take them to the next level.
“But could Eddie Howe deal with a level of expectations and attitude when it comes to that next level?
“Well, Declan is the complete opposite of that. Top-class player. The right attitude. He’s not going to give you any problems, if ever Newcastle wanted to make a statement signing, then there is one.”

RICE WOULD ELEVATE NEWCASTLE’S MIDFIELD
That has been one of Newcastle’s biggest strengths and a big reason behind their top-four finish.
The power, control and no-nonsense quality their midfield showcased this season was just too hot to handle for many.

Leon Osman has shared that he would like Sean Dyche’s Everton to sign Leeds United forward Rodrigo during the summer transfer window.
On the final day of the 2022/23 Premier League season, Everton secured their safety, whilst Leeds United, along with Leicester City, dropped to the Championship on a heartbreaking day of action for the two teams.
Bearing that in mind, former midfielder Osman wouldn’t mind Everton pushing for Rodrigo’s signature and he would ‘love’ him at Goodison Park, as he told Premier League Productions (30/05/23 at 3:55 pm).
Will he stay at Elland Road beyond the summer? Well, after the 32-year-old scored 13 Premier League goals for a relegated side, then other teams will sit up a take notice.
Osman can’t see him staying on board and he suggested that the Whites might have stayed up if Rodrigo had remained injury-free.
“I think he is a player a lot of teams will look at,” said Osman. “As an Everton fan, I would love to have him at Everton. I think he was injured for a large part of the season.
“Leeds definitely missed him. Bamford hadn’t performed, but he had. If they had him for a lot longer maybe they would have done more.”

EVERTON NEED TO SORT OUT THEIR ISSUES
There are only so many times you can play with fire before getting burnt. Everton need to sort out their many major issues before they can move forward again.
From the civil war between fans and the board to the striker/goalscoring issues.
There is only so much Dyche can fix, but one area, if provided with funds, he can change, is getting Everton scoring again and perhaps someone like Rodrigo would be a logical buy that wouldn’t attract that much money because of his age and current situation.

Former Arsenal hero Andrey Arshavin believes Malcom is ready for a move to a major European club with his Premier League employers reportedly weighing up a move for the Zenit St Petersburg star.
When scouting potential signings, most clubs tend to consider both the statistics and whether or not the player in question passes the good old-fashioned ‘eye test’.
As far as Arshavin is concerned, Malcom has no problems in either department. The former Barcelona benchwarmer has 26 goals and nine assists for the Russian Premier League giants this term, but those admittedly-exceptional numbers do not even tell the full story of his impact in the baby blue of Zenit St Petersburg.

“He is the best both in terms of his play and his statistics. Who is better than him? He deservedly should become the Player of the Year,” Arshavin, who now works as the debuty general manager at Zenit, tells Sport24.
“Of course, everyone at the club is happy with the Brazilians we have. There is a desire to keep them. But everyone understands the situation, which can happen in different ways; maybe no one leaves, maybe one, two or three will leave.
“Realising this, the club is looking for replacements.”
Will Malcom leave Zenit for Arsenal?
According to 90Min, Arsenal are one of a number of clubs eyeing up the explosive, £40 million-rated right-winger ahead of the summer transfer window.
26-year-old Malcom reportedly has admirers at Newcastle United and Manchester City too; confirming last week that Paris Saint-Germain had also expressed an interest as the Ligue 1 champions prepare for life without the departing Lionel Messi.
Arshavin is under no illusions that Malcom, putting that disastrous Barcelona spell behind him, is ready to make up for lost time in one of Europe’s major leagues.
The Zenit-legend-turned-director would still prefer to see his top-scoring talisman stick around for another season, though Arshavin accepts that Malcom’s recent Brazil call-up will serve to only enhance his growing reputation.
“For me, (Malcom’s call-up) is unexpected. But, on the other hand, deserved,” Arshavin adds. “But this is a bad signal. If he scores a goal, his chances of leaving Zenit will increase.
“If there is a good offer, if it is concrete, Malcom will consider it anyway. Malcolm is at such an age where he can play in the European leagues.”

A statement shared by Chick-fil-A’s VP of DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion), Erick McReynolds, on the same subject has gathered a lot of attention online, as people are trying to figure out when it was first published.
While the backlash Target received over its Pride collection for 2023 is yet to settle, Chick-fil-A is being criticized by conservatives for what it states on its official website, with regard to inclusion and equal opportunity to all.
However, people taking issue with the company’s initiative toward inclusivity have failed to realize the said statement has been there for a while. The VP of DEI was neither recently appointed, nor did he say anything new which wasn’t already known to the public.
Erick McReynolds has worked with Chick-fil-A for years
Erick has been serving as the Vice President of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at Chick-fil-A since November 2021, as displayed on his LinkedIn profile.
However, he has been an employee of the company since 2007, when he started off as a Business Consultant. He then worked his way up in sales and service teams throughout his career with the restaurant chain.
This fact, however, has been falsely represented on Twitter by some users, who are claiming that Chick-fil-A only recently hired the VP Of DEI, in the wake of the boycott calls against Target, Bud Light beer, and more.
This couldn’t be further from the truth and the misconstruction of facts appear to be an attempt to bring negative attention to the company’s inclusivity policy.
As shown on the company’s website, Chick-fil-A’s purpose is “to have a positive influence on all who come into contact with Chick-fil-A,” with Erick stating the restaurant is a place where “people know they will be treated well.”
“Modeling care for others starts in the restaurant, and we are committed to ensuring mutual respect, understanding, and dignity everywhere we do business. These tenets are good business practice and crucial to fulfilling our Corporate Purpose,” the VP of DEI’s statement concludes.
The brand takes pride in its value: “When we’re Better at Together, we’re better together” and focuses on being together by embedding Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in “everything” they do.
Chick-fil-A falls prey to boycott calls amid growing backlash over other brands
Chick-fil-A began to face the wrath of the conservatives as some claimed the brand was “going woke” with its values pertaining to inclusivity.
Opinions about the company’s vision and mission for its DEI became the target after the old statement by Erick was posed as a recent one on Twitter, with some even organizing polls to know if Chick-fil-A deserved the same treatment as brands prior, including Target and Bud Light, who are facing calls to be boycotted.
The fast-food restaurant chain hasn’t addressed or commented on the reactions to its DEI statement in the wake of the latest uproar, at the time of writing this story.

The pixel size of the Story’s icon on Instagram appears to have been increased without any warning for a significant number of users, and the change in its appearance isn’t being well-received.
The social media app was dragged on Twitter earlier this month for the same reason, when users noticed the Stories were zoomed in, thus creating a bigger icon image.
Instagram did not provide any explanation and it was thought to be a temporary glitch on the app. But, the same issue has recurred a few weeks later, and users are dreading it could be permanent.
On accessing the Instagram app on Tuesday, May 30, several users noticed the Stories icon was slightly larger and the difference in its size was evident.
The Instagram story highlight covers are the same as the actual Story, with a dimension of 1080 x 1920 pixels.
While the app owned by Meta hasn’t announced any changes to the icon depicting its feature that lasts only for 24 hours, users are finding it extremely inconvenient.
We’re all used to seeing the old size that has existed since the Story’s inception, and our minds are unable to process the bigger icon, which represents the Stories that are widely used by the majority of users on a daily basis.
User experience is the key to any app’s success, so there’s always room for it to be made more convenient or enhanced further. The increase in the size of Instagram Story’s icon could be an experiment to see if it appeals to its consumers better.
However, the unofficial change has mostly garnered negative reviews.
One user noted: “Instagram, no. No to the new story size. Please no. Bring back the normal size. My eyes hurt.”
“Why are Instagram story icons now the size of my thumb?” asked another.
A third person wrote: “Yo why my Instagram story circles increase in size? These proportions are not the vibe.”
“They updated the Instagram story circle size, it is large as hell,” quipped another.
What could possibly make the Story icon look bigger
One of the possible reasons for the increased size of the Story’s icon on Instagram could be an experiment by the app to understand the user interface factor.
Therefore, the new changes may only reflect on some accounts until a call is taken on whether to make the changes permanent.
Or, this could as well be a temporary glitch on the app, which may take some time to be fixed.
However, you may not be able to make the icon go back to its original size or fix it on your own by making changes to your device as most users appear to be affected by it.

Innocent Drinks have partnered with a charity called Mermaids, but why are people demanding a boycott of the smoothie company?
The ongoing culture war taking place between conservative pundits and brands that have celebrated the LGBTQ+ community appears to have migrated across the pond from the US to the UK. Innocent Drinks, the smoothie brand known for its quirky marketing approach, is the latest company to face boycott calls after it published a Twitter thread written in collaboration with Mermaids – an LGBTQ+ charity.
Innocent Smoothies enlists the help of Mermaids charity
Wednesday, May 17 marked the annual commemorative celebration known as International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia, or IDAHOBIT for short.
In order to mark the occasion, Innocent Drinks took to Twitter on May 30, just shy of two weeks after the occasion, to help educate their 295,000+ followers on a selection of terms and issues associated with the LGBTQ+ community.

In order to do so, Innocent enlisted the consultancy help of the British charity Mermaids, who seemingly advised the soft drink merchants over the direction of the thread. “We’re always looking for ways to be more inclusive, so, we asked Mermaids to teach us what’s okay to say”, said Innocent.
Innocent proceeded to name and define the following four concepts: deadnaming, misgendering, gender diverse and gender dysphoria.
UPDATE: Innocent Drinks has now deleted the Mermaids Twitter threat, and published a statement at 19:32 BST on May 30, stating: “Today we posted about what we learned from one of these talks, and in the past few hours, we’ve started to see lots of comments that weren’t in line with our values.”
“We always want to make sure our social media channels are respectful and inclusive, which is why we’ve deleted the thread.”
According to its official website, Mermaids was founded in 1995 and has gone on to become one of the “UK’s leading LGBTQ+ charities” in the years since.
The Mermaids charity aims to assist children and young people up to the age of 20 who identify as transgender, non-binary or gender-diverse.
The list of services provided by Mermaids includes community groups both online and in person, assistance with the running of LGBTQ+ emergency hotlines and the provision of support for the families of those who are gender non-conforming.
While the thread was intended to be something of an educational resource, Innocent’s Mermaids collaboration has been met with a great deal of anger from certain elements of Twitter, leading to Innocent having to hide a number of replies that contained strong language, or could be described as being threatening.
Why are people calling for boycott of Innocent Drinks and smoothies?
The anger directed at Innocent for their Mermaids IDAHOBIT thread appears to be in a similar vein to the recent anger directed toward US retail giants Target over certain items in their 2023 Pride range.
Essentially, a small but vocal core of Twitter users appear to be taking issue with brands taking part in LGBTQ+ community celebrations like Pride, or marketing products toward LGBTQ+ people.
Many of the people complaining about these brands, particularly in the US, market themselves as conservative pundits or commentators and are subscribed to Twitter’s verification system – thus amplifying their voices on the algorithm.
Such an attitude was optimised by one Twitter user who replied “Thanks, you are now on my ‘do not buy’ list” to the thread. “Like your product but I stop buying it from today. Bye”, tweeted another user in support of an Innocent smoothie boycott.
Mermaids were recently subjected to a hit piece in The Telegraph that claimed the charity had assisted The NHS in planning gender clinic services for children, though they refuted such claims on Twitter.

It has been claimed that while Arsenal admire Ivan Fresneda, they are yet to send an official proposal to complete a transfer for him.

Newcastle United and West Ham United target Conor Gallagher allegedly hasn’t done enough to convince the Chelsea hierarchy.
Chelsea could axe midfielder Conor Gallagher this summer with Newcastle United and West Ham United alerted to his situation.
That is according to TalkSPORT, who claim that Chelsea want to sell a number of homegrown players this summer.
The Blues believe that selling off their young English players will help bring in cash and balance the books after some scattergun spending over the last year.
Gallagher is one player who could go and it’s stated that the Chelsea hierarchy just aren’t convinced by him.
A summer sale could be on the cards with Gallagher allegedly valued at around £40million.
It’s stated that three Premier League clubs – Crystal Palace, Newcastle United and West Ham United – have all been alerted to his availability.
Palace took Gallagher on loan for the 2021-22 season and would love to bring him back to Selhurst Park.
Beating West Ham and especially Newcastle won’t be easy though with a real fight for Gallagher’s signature seemingly imminent.

Newcastle United seem very interested in Conor Gallagher
Staying in London will appeal to Gallagher with Palace and West Ham both offering that option.
Yet being a part of the Newcastle project will be a major pull to many players, especially with Champions League football on offer.
Gallagher has been linked with Newcastle for months now and the noises seem to indicate that summer move is a real possibility.

The 23-year-old has plenty of potential and may need to trade Chelsea for Newcastle to fulfil it in the coming years.
That rumour hasn’t moved forward though and Nagelsmann is currently in the dark over whether Spurs are pushing for him.

As Memorial Day 2023 rolls in, many shoppers are wondering whether the supermarket Heb, otherwise spelled H-E-B, will remain open or closed on the holiday.
Memorial Day falls on Monday, April 29 this year. It is one of the 10 federal holidays that the US observes. However, this holiday, observed on the last Monday of May every year, is unlike others. It is a somber holiday, meant to remember and honor the men and women who died protecting the country.

Newcastle United target Shea Charles enjoyed a fine end to the season as he made his Manchester City debut.
City headed to Brentford on the final day of the Premier League season with nothing riding on the game.
Pep Guardiola’s men had already wrapped up the Premier League title and didn’t need a result in West London.
It’s just as well really; Brentford frustrated City and claimed a 1-0 win thanks to Ethan Pinnock’s second-half goal.
This wasn’t City’s greatest display but nobody will really care if Guardiola completes a treble in the coming weeks.
There was a great moment for one City player during Sunday’s defeat though.
Youngster Shea Charles was brought off the bench for his Premier League debut and his first ever City game.
The 19-year-old was born in Manchester and has come up through the City ranks, so this was a really special day.
Charles will be buzzing today but there is a real chance that this will be his first and final City appearance…

Newcastle United want to sign Shea Charles
Charles finds himself a man in demand heading into the summer.
The Daily Mail reported in April that Newcastle United, Leeds United, Brentford and Borussia Dortmund all want Charles.
The 19-year-old has featured 26 times in Premier League 2 this season and has even picked up six caps for Northern Ireland.
A defensive midfielder who can also drop into defence, Charles appears to have a big future ahead of him.
Breaking into the City team isn’t easy though and one substitute appearance on the final day may not be enough to convince him of a future at the Etihad Stadium.
Leeds suffering relegation makes their attempts to sign Charles a little trickier, but Newcastle will be primed and ready to strike if he wants to leave City.
However, the Gunners have yet to make a decision on whether or not to sign the 20-year-old Spain international forward, described as “extraordinary” by Barcelona head coach Xavi in October 2022.
Delaney wrote: “With Barcelona looking to sell a host of players, Ansu Fati is one of those seen as most attainable.
“He is one of Europe’s brightest young talents, but injuries have hampered his development.
“Intermediaries are looking at whether a move to Arsenal would be possible but they aren’t biting yet.”
What should Arsenal do about Barcelona forward Ansu Fati?
In our view, Arsenal should not sign Ansu Fati from Barcelona in the summer transfer window.
Fati is a very talented and promising player, but he is only 20.

Arsenal need someone who is more experienced and more established to play upfront with Gabriel Jesus or compete with the Brazil international striker.
Jesus is not a particularly prolific striker, and Arsenal could do with bringing someone in who would be able to score goals regularly.
Fati is still a player who is developing.
The Barcelona no. 10 can operate out wide or down the middle as a central striker.
The 20-year-old has made 12 starts and 23 substitute appearances in La Liga for Barcelona this season.
Fati has scored six goals and given three assists in those games.
